Blue Cross Blue Shield Of Arizona Launches Recipe Contest with Arizona Girl Scouts

Requests original, healthy recipe submissions by Oct. 8, 2016

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona is calling on the young, inspiring chefs to join the All About Healthy Living recipe contest, hosted in collaboration with Girl Scouts—Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC). The organizations are looking for Girl Scouts of any age within the Cactus-Pine Council to submit their favorite healthy, original recipe for a cold side dish as part of the BCBSAZ All About Healthy Living patch program.

For a recipe to be considered, it must be submitted between Sept. 24 – Oct. 8, 2016 and follow these guidelines:

  • Must be submitted by an active Girl Scout with GSACPC
  • Is an original recipe for a cold side dish
  • Includes at least one fruit and/or vegetable
  • Can be cooked within 20 minutes (including prep time)

The winner will be selected based on:

  • Nutritional value
  • Potential taste
  • Average cost per person for ingredients
  • Originality

All Girl Scouts who enter a recipe will earn the All About Healthy Living patch and Health rocker. The Girl Scout with the winning entry will receive $150 gift card to the Cactus-Pine Council Shop. In addition, the winning recipe and tastings of the dish will be distributed at community events. To enter your recipe, visit www.nourishingarizona.com/recipe and complete the online entry form by Oct. 8, 2016.

The All About Healthy Living patch was launched earlier this year to help Girl Scouts discover, connect and take action around the issue of healthy living. It’s an engaging model designed to inspire a culture of health and wellness for Arizona’s youth.

This patch program is the most comprehensive of its kind, providing progressive, age-appropriate, hands-on learning opportunities for girls from K to 12. It also incorporates a spectrum of activities focusing on key aspects of wellness with more than 70 local community organizations around the state.

This Girl Scout initiative is one of many community efforts that BCBSAZ supports under its Nourishing Arizona program. Through the Nourishing Arizona program, BCBSAZ educates communities across the state about making better food choices and preventing chronic health conditions. Helping Arizona families build active lifestyles and form lifelong healthy habits remains a significant focus for the not-for-profit company.
