Discover how Amanda earned her degree through the BCBSAZ Tuition Reimbursement Program

Pursuing an education requires focus and perseverance at any age. But as we get older and have other responsibilities, such as a full-time job or family, going back to school can be daunting.

Amanda, a quality control supervisor at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ), has been in school on and off since graduating high school.

“So it wasn't really a 'back-to-school' experience for me, but I had to learn how to juggle a full-time job, a full-time education, and being a full-time wife and mom,” she says. “There have been many obstacles along the way, but I had a wonderful support system that kept me going. The sleepless nights and having to get up for work the next day were definitely one of the hardest parts of this journey.”

It took Amanda about two years to earn her Master of Science in healthcare administration from Grand Canyon University. She has her associate and bachelor’s degrees from other schools, loved her experience at Grand Canyon University, and is grateful for tuition help from BCBSAZ.

“The BCBSAZ Tuition Reimbursement Program helped reduce what I will owe for my student loans,” she says. “Thank you, BCBSAZ!"

With so much on her plate, Amanda needed to be dedicated and focused to achieve her goals and balance all of her responsibilities.

“The biggest sacrifice I made was my personal time. I did not have a lot of free time, so whenever I did, I made sure to use it wisely,” she says. “Success came with a lot of organization, dedication, motivation, and hard work. I knew what I wanted, and I didn't stop until I reached my goal.”

Amanda recently started a new position at BCBSAZ in the quality control department and is excited to use her newly gained skills in the role.

“Now that I have my degree,” she adds, “I feel determined and motivated to continue my career path at BCBSAZ.”

Way to go, Amanda!
